This communication concerns the historical dynamics of Scythians and Meotians, the two most important indigeanous groups in the vicinity of the Bosporan Greeks. The period covered goes from the VIIth century till the end of the IVth century

After their installation on the two sides of the Cimmerian Bosporus during the second quarter of the VIth century, Greeks enter in contact with local populations of the hinterland. The particularity of this encounter is that it concerns both nomads (Scythians) and sedentary tribes (Meotians). Those cultures react towards greek presence in a very different way. That's why we need to engage a diachronic analysis of those societies, based on archaeological discoveries and written sources, in order to understand the nature of their relations with the greek poleis of the coast.
