Wittenberg – October 21st - 24th 2010

International symposium hosted by the Center for Black Sea Archaeology  in cooperation with the Department of Classics, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (http://archaeology.altertum.uni-halle.de).

Program

The period between the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age (i.e. from the end of the second millennium BC until the consolidation of the Urartian Kingdom in the 9th century BC) is one of the most fascinating stages of the development of archaeological cultures in Transcaucasia into which Scholars of Halle University are doing research in collaboration with other institutions in Transcaucasian field archaeology since 1994 (http://robertin.altertum.uni-halle.de/georgien/index.html; http://www.achemenet.com/document/2007.002-Knauss.pdf).
W
e would like to bring together scholars from diverse countries and to encourage cooperation as well as information exchange with archaeological and scientific research contributions to all areas of Transcaucasia in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age – a period which calls for a comprehensive solid grounding of research discoveries.

The results of the symposium will be published in the Series of the Center of Black Sea Archaeology (Schriften des Zentrums für Archäologie und Kulturgeschichte des Schwarzmeerraumes, ed. F. Bertemes/A. Furtwängler).
